My favorite olive oil spots when travelling
🌍 My favorite olive oil spots when travelling — Episode #1: France 🇫🇷
When I travel, I always make time to connect with local olive oil producers — drawn not only to the oils themselves but to the stories, the landscapes, and the heartfelt traditions that shape them.
• CHÂTEAU D’ESTOUBLON (Provence)
A majestic estate rooted in history since 1489, nestled in the Alpilles. Strolling through centuries-old olive groves and visiting their historic mill is like stepping into Provençal heritage. You can join intimate tastings of their oils and wines, or enjoy gourmet picnics in sun-drenched gardens—a refined yet relaxed immersion in terroir and elegance.
Must taste: Beruguette
• DOMAINE JÒLIBOIS Provence, Vallée-des-Baux-de-Provence)
An inspiring story of rebirth: Anne-Sophie Pellissier and Clément Pellissier revived 240 ha of abandoned groves. The largest olive estate in France now operates organically in a protected Natura 2000 area. Visits include walking among sustainably grown trees, seeing their mill, and tasting beautifully crafted oils, sometimes even harvesting them by hand.
Olive oil tasting is proposed at the Domaine or in the beautiful shop in Saint Remy de Provence.
Must taste: Aglandau, and olives maturées (organic)
• DOMAINE DE GERBAUD (Luberon)
A small family-run estate at the foot of the Luberon, offering an intimate, organic experience. It’s a haven of calm where olive trees intertwine with vineyards, producing elegant, cold-pressed oils that reflect the purity of their terroir. (organic)
Must taste: Blend
• DOMAINE MIRA LUNA (Provence)
A poetic dialogue between the past and the future: traditional olive varieties meet innovative biodynamic practices. Nestled in the heart of Domaine de la Baume in Tourtour, an immersive journey in pure Provence.
Mira Luna olive oil can be tasted at DOMAINE DE LA BAUME
Must Taste: Petit Ribier & olives maturées (organic)
• Moulin à huile du DOMAINE DE PIERREDON (Occitanie)
Tucked close to Nîmes, this historic mill embodies regional authenticity. They press local varieties—Picholine, Salonenque, Grossane, Verdale—with speed to preserve their fresh green-fruit character, delivering oils with notes of artichoke and fresh almond. A visit feels like a journey into living tradition.
Must taste: Green fruity
✨ Why these visits are unforgettable
Each estate weaves a unique narrative: a historic château, a mill turned revival project, a family nestled in the Luberon, or a biodynamic gem nestled in a protected domaine. Together, they offer more than olive oil — they offer memories, hospitality, and a sense of place that lingers long after the bottle is empty.
My tip: Remember that we are at the end of the season, if you are looking for the fresh sensations ask for the more intense cultivars, they will be amazing at this period of the year!
